Parties should have at least one good offensive spell for dealing with those pesky high-evasion monsters & swarms. Offensive spells always hit their target, and they hit every monster standing in a swarm for full damage. That isn't to say that damage spells are worthless. Their damage output starts off strong in the early-game, but does not scale as highly as melee-focused characters.
